What is Aromatherapy?

According to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, Aromatherapy is simply the art and science of balancing, harmonizing, & promoting the health of mind, body, and soul by utilizing & extracting the naturally occurring aromatic essence from the plants.

National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy emphasizes on the fact that aromatherapy enhances one’s innate healing process by unifying the physiological, psychological, and spiritual processes.

However, the term Aromatherapy was derived in 1937 by a French perfumer and chemist named Rene-Maurice Gattefosse. He wrote in his book, Gattefosse’s Aromatherapy, that aromatherapy is the practice of healing using plant essences, infusions, and essential oils in ancient times. In those days, this form of therapy was very widely used for curing aches, burns, and other ailments.
